Modern anxieties trim traditional celebrations

Villagers in Huizhou, Guangdong province, abstained from setting off fireworks - a traditional way to commemorate last Sunday's Dragon Boat Festival - in order to maintain a quiet environment for students taking the national college entrance examinations over the weekend.

The anxiety-ridden exams are considered the most important aptitude test for students in China.
