Stop random college ranking

China Daily | Updated: 2008-06-14 07:39

We should stop private companies from ranking colleges, says an article in Guangzhou Daily. The following is an excerpt:

On June 10, a Shenzhen-based education company released a ranking list for China's colleges the second day after the close of this year's national college entrance exam.

People usually view the filing of an application for a college as a "difficult task", and some even regard it as a "second test" after the college entrance exam. If a scientific and authoritative ranking or a research paper about colleges can be offered to test-takers and their parents, it would be a timely help for them. But the problem is that there are too many lists of college rankings being published and we do not know which one is reliable.
