Little damage to grain harvest

By Fu Jing | China Daily | Updated: 2008-06-13 07:38

The earthquake had little effect on Sichuan's grain harvest. But the province suffered massive damage to its cash crops and agricultural infrastructure, provincial agricultural officials said.

Sichuan's quake zone is not a major producer of grain. Only about 25,000 tons was lost. In fact, the summer grain yield has so far seen an increase of 92,000 tons.

Song Xugui, division director with the provincial agricultural department, said the province may be able to achieve its goal of a year-on-year grain increase of 150,000 tons this year if weather conditions improve.
