Groundless accusation

China Daily | Updated: 2008-06-07 08:20

Those so-called "guardians of human rights" in the West have turned a blind eye to China's achievements, says an article in People's Daily. The following is an excerpt:

As the Chinese government and people are making great efforts to save lives in the massive earthquake in Sichuan province, the British House of Commons held a hearing on the so-called issue of China's human rights and even invited the Dalai Lama to address the hearing. It was not only offensive to the 1.3 billion Chinese people, but also made a mockery of the so-called human rights as advocated by some Western countries.

The Chinese government and people have moved the whole world by sticking to the concept of putting people first in the quake disaster. The foreign media now believes the Chinese government and people really care about life. A BBC report said today's China has a deep understanding of the concept that the government should be held accountable for the people. The Los Angeles Times said that a more and more humanized Chinese government is trying to provide psychological comfort and support for the people affected by the earthquake.
