Floating Population

People who left their permanent addresses under the household registration system to live or work in other areas. The floating population has been rising dramatically since the 1980s. Most of them moved from the countryside to the city, from underdeveloped areas to developed ones and from the central and western parts to the eastern parts of the country as a result of speedy economic development and modern agricultural practices that have reduced the need for intensive input of laborers.
