Sunrise, a drama by renowned Chinese playwright Cao Yu, will be presented in Guangzhou. The play has been staged several times. Various people have played the female role of Chen Bailu. Chen Shu, who takes up the role this time, has been complimented by audiences as the most appropriate and beautiful Chen Bailu. Chen is an actress of the National Theater.

CONCERTS

Well-known Taiwan composer Lo Leungfai will hold his National Symphonic Works Concert, under the baton of director Hu Bingxu.

All the pieces being presented are composed by Lo. Lo will be joined by erhu player Meng Xiaoxu, and the China National Orchestra, Guangdong. Lo was born in Tianjin and moved to Taiwan in 1986, where he created many concert works for major orchestras including the Taipei Chinese Orchestra, the Kaohsiung City Chinese Orchestra and the National Chinese Orchestra.

A guzheng concert by famous Guangdong artist Rao Shuxing will be presented soon.

Guzheng, a zither-like 21- or 25-stringed plucked musical instrument, is one of China's ancient musical instruments. Performances of the guzheng date back more than 2,000 years, when it was a popular instrument. Rao was born in a guzheng family. He began to learn the instrument at a very young age. He then continued with the guzheng as his major at the Guangzhou Xinghai Conservatory of Music.

Starry Night of Cello - chamber concert of 12 cellists - comes as part of the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra 2007-2008 Music Season.

The rich sound of the cello is often regarded as close to a human voice. Twelve cellists from the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra will perform different melodies in different ensembles, creating a unique for Guangzhou locals.

A symphony concert, Romance of Violin, will be presented under the baton of well-known French conductor and violinist Augustin Dumay. Dumay will not only conduct but also play the violin. The Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra will also perform in the concert.

Dumay is one of the most talented artists of his generation. The Strad Magazine described him recently as the "legitimate heir to the royal Belgian line of Ysaye, Dubois and Grumiaux", who was his mentor.

Exhibitions

An exhibition of ink paintings by Chen Yongqiang, Tree, Life, Annual Ring, is being held in Guangzhou. Chen was born in Guangzhou in 1948. In 1981, he graduated from the Chinese Painting of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts and obtained a Master's degree. In his newest exhibition in Guangzhou, the 60-year-old painter advocates a spirit of optimism, reflected in the upward thrust of the trees.

Contemporary artist Song Guangzhi is holding his print exhibition in Guangzhou.

Song's works are filled with a sense of seeking and sadness. However, in his opinion, sadness is not a negative emotion but an indispensable aspect of life. No one can escape anxiety, sadness and pain. The artist expresses his care for humans and their living conditions through his works.
