The write stuff

China Daily | Updated: 2008-06-03 07:27

Bi Shumin, 56, was a doctor for 20 years before becoming a renowned writer. Her novels such as Red Prescription and Salvaging Breasts focus on her medical experience, psychology and death.

On May 28, she and three other writers visited three children from Beichuan county, one of the worst hit areas in Sichuan's earthquake. The children all lost their limbs in the quake and are under intensive care in a Beijing hospital. Bi's special presents cheered them up.

Bi ended her global tour that she had planned for a year. On the ship, she and other travelers held a fundraiser. Bi flew back to Beijing from Singapore last week and headed straight for the Red Cross to donate the cash in many currencies. She is in Sichuan to join the relief efforts.

The article is an excerpt from Bi's blog on Sina.com.
