Ding Yao is playing with her pals on the side of a country road as villagers hurry with the summer wheat harvest. She sits near a patch of field and smells the sweet and fresh fragrance of ripe wheat rising up towards the overcast sky. It's a rare moment of peace for the l0-year-old. Most of the time she is haunted by nightmares of death and destruction.
