Bolivia thanks Blatter
LA PAZ: FIFA president Sepp Blatter has been thanked by Bolivia president Evo Morales for the decision by soccer's governing body to lift a ban on playing international matches at high altitude.
Morales had led a high-profile campaign against the ban, which he called "soccer apartheid" and would have prevented Bolivia from hosting matches in La Paz. At one point he took part in a game on a volcano at more than 5,000 m above sea level.
FIFA agreed earlier this week to lift the ban on international matches at over 2,750 m above sea level at their Congress in Australia.
