Following the massive earthquake that shook Sichuan, China Netcom (CNC) Beijing had opened 45 hotlines by May 23 for relief work.

The hotlines provide communication between the quake zone, the central government and a range of agencies including the China Earthquake Network Center (CENC), the Ministry of Communications, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the National Geomatics Center of China, All-China Federation of Trade Unions, the Ministry of Land and Resources and the Ministry of Public Security.

Seventeen hotlines were installed for websites Sina, Sohu, Baidu and QQ to help meet demands from increasing online traffic.
