The prestigious Peking University has hosted numerous political luminaries from around the world over the years, but a speech to be given by Russia's newly appointed president has whipped the campus into a frenzy of curiosity.
Doctoral candidate Yi Yuan, an international political major charged with collecting ticket applications for Dmitry Medvedev's address, said the number of student applications for the Saturday afternoon speech was at least six times greater than the number of seats available.
"Medvedev is sort of mysterious in our eyes," Yi said. "Personally, I'm greatly concerned about the tendency of Russia's policies after the position shift between Putin and Medvedev."
