Road crash kills 45 troops

A fuel tanker crashed into a military convoy in northern Nigeria late on Wednesday, killing 45 soldiers who had just returned from peacekeeping duties in Sudan's Darfur region, the Nigerian army said yesterday.

The soldiers, who returned on Tuesday after six months in Darfur, were traveling from the capital Abuja to their base in the remote northeastern state of Borno when the truck rammed into their convoy, army spokesman Emeka Onwuamaegbu said.
