Uniform deterrent

Police officers in Urumqi have been told to wear uniforms and take public transport to work and home, the Xinjiang Metropolis News said yesterday. Jiang Luyou of the public transport branch said the security bureau will stop picking up officers from their homes. The move is aimed at curbing crime on public transport and the streets.

The bureau handled 536 petty street crimes, such as robbery and pick-pocketing, from January to April this year.
