Scholarships for top migrant workers

SHENZHEN: The trade union in this southern boomtown is to offer scholarships to 100 excellent but poverty-stricken migrant workers.

The program, called "Dreams Come True", is the first of its kind in the city, which is home to more than 7 million migrant workers.

It is a major step in the city's efforts to treat migrant workers as citizens, rather than outsiders, and to help upgrade their skills, the Shenzhen general trade union said.
