Bank hits 100

Bank of Communications (BOCOM), one of the country's five largest banks, celebrated its 100th anniversary yesterday at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. The bank has total assets of 2.1 trillion yuan ($300 billion) and its market value ranked among the world's top 20 banks last year.

The bank, headquartered in Shanghai, has more than 2,600 branches in the mainland and seven branches overseas.

BOCOM is said to occupy a special position in the country's financial history. It is a pioneer in the campaign to reform the country's financial system.
