5 m hit by bad weather
Sandstorms, snow and ice have hit northwest Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region since Thursday, affecting 5 million people and causing an estimated 5 billion yuan ($714 million) worth of damage, local authorities said yesterday.
The bad weather has affected more than 473,000 hectares of crops, about 69 percent of the region's total.
