Brazil battles for the last Olympic berth in Beijing

By Chen Xiangfeng | China Daily | Updated: 2008-04-19 07:39

2007 Women's World Cup runner-up Brazil will take on Ghana at the Beijing Workers' Stadium on Saturday for the final soccer berth at the Beijing Olympics. The draw for both the men's and women's soccer competitions will be held the following day, also in the capital city.

Four years ago in Athens, the Canarinhas made it to the final, but had to make do with silver after an extra-time goal by Abby Wambach secured victory for the US.

Then, last September at the Women's World Cup China 2007, the Marta Vieira da Silva-inspired team seemed unstoppable. It beat the US 4-0 in the semifinals but fell again at the last hurdle, this time losing to Germany.
