China through jaundiced eyes

The Lhasa riot was unquestionably a violent crime. However, it was exploited by people in the West with hidden motives in order to offset China's efforts to improve its image and its aspiration for equal standing among world powers, Singapore-based www.zaobao.com said last week.

The hostility incited by Tibetan separatists coincided with the resistance to and doubts about China's rise in the West. When the West views China with fear and jealousy, everything starts to fit in a distorted political image.
