Former chancellor Kohl to remarry

An aide to former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl said yesterday that the long-serving ex-leader plans to remarry.

The head of Kohl's office in Berlin, Ulrich Pohlmann, confirmed a report in the mass-circulation daily Bild that Kohl plans to wed 43-year-old economist Maike Richter, whom he introduced as his partner in 2005. Pohlmann declined to comment on the timing of the wedding or other details, saying that it was a private matter.
