Oscar's a winner
Two polar opposite, divorced friends, Oscar and Felix, try help each other by living together, but their lifestyles collide, creating hilarious, laugh-out-loud situations. Written by Neil Simon, American most popular modern playwright, The Odd Couple's hilarious one-liners have been zinging across Broadway stages for 40 years.
Beijing Playhouse, China's English language community theater, will stage this 1965 Tony Award-winning comedy from April 4 to 27.
"This play is a laugh-filled evening of classic comedy that will give our audiences the chance to relax and forget about their daily stress and problems," says Chris Verrill, founder and executive director of Beijing Playhouse. "It's been running on and off Broadway for 40 years. Chinese audiences are sure to love it."
Director Rod Archer, taking his fourth turn at this American classic, delivers a happy light-hearted romp. The Assistant Director of Beijing Playhouse's production of Guys and Dolls, Archer has been directing and acting in theaters in the US for 30 years.
American Michael Gralapp, who appeared in Guys and Dolls, stars as Oscar with Conrad Haessler, from Germany, as Felix.
Beijing Playhouse, a community theater, has previously presented productions of shows like The Sound of Music and A Christmas Carol. Those looking to try their hand at acting - don't be shy - professional experience is not necessary.
Performed in English with Chinese subtitles. 7.30pm on Saturday, 2pm on Sunday. Chaoyang Cultural Center.
