600,000 delayed on train
A fire and a signal fault delayed more than 600,000 Japanese commuters yesterday, with thousands forced out of their carriages to walk along the tracks in the rain.
Trains stopped running on the Chuo Line, one of the most crowded routes through the Japanese capital, around 8 am after a fire at a railway facility, a spokesman for operator East Japan Railway said.
