Stocks surge on positive outlook

SHANGHAI: Investors' expectations of positive signals from the government during the three-day Tomb-sweeping Day break and the recovery of overseas stock markets pushed up the mainland stock index 2.94 percent yesterday.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index rose 98.36 points to close at 3446.24, with 698 out of 911 stocks closing higher. The Shenzhen Component Index jumped 2.5 percent to close at 12652.91.
