Don't ruin a worthy gift

The Olympics was a gift to humanity from the Ancient Greeks. Ancient Greece was one of the great civilizations of the human race, and the Olympic Games reflect that. It is supposed to be about friendly competition and not a political means to an end.

As China carries the Olympic torch, I believe modern China has come of age as it turns outward and opens up to the rest of the world. We must not let some extremist groups spoil this moment for the Chinese people and people of the world.

I cannot help laughing at the conflicting remarks by the Dalai Lama.

On the one hand, he claimed he agreed with China on the building of a harmonious society. On the other, he called the riots a "peaceful" protest in which innocent people were attacked and killed.

How can China build a harmonious society by the Dalai Lama's so-called peaceful protests?

The whole world can now see the true face of the Dalai Lama. He has long been calling himself an advocate of peace, but we now know that reality proves the opposite.

What we hear from the Western media is a condemnation of the Chinese government for quelling the riots in Lhasa.

When they mention human rights, do they mean that the rioters have the right to kill innocent people? Then what about these innocent people's right to survive? How absurd their standards on human rights are.

The Dalai Lama, a Nobel Peace laureate, could have at least told his supporters to stop killing and attacking innocent people, but he did not.

We really hope people in Tibet can live peacefully.

China is doing very well so far. It is the West that is keeping itself busy painting a distorted image of China. The country cannot do anything if the West continues to preach that China is bad. Promotion of violence is doomed to fail.

The riots in Lhasa did not happen by accident. It was a well-organized and coordinated crime against humanity.

First, the violence attempted to sabotage the Beijing Olympics. Second, it was a plot to split Tibet from China.

China must take firm and stern action against these criminals who damaged properties, inflicted injuries and caused deaths.

I am an American but I respect China. I do not support the so-called Free Tibet movement. I know about the dreadful history of slavery and feudalism that existed in Tibet prior to 1959. I speak of this all the time in the United States.
