Minister to resign over short messages

Scores of text messages to a model, who also works as a dancer, has cost Finnish Foreign Minister Ilkka Kanerva his job in the government, the leader of Kanerva's conservative National Coalition Party said yesterday.

Party leader Jyrkki Katainen, also finance minister in the four-party coalition, told the online edition of Verkkouutiset that Kanerva could no longer remain in office over the affair and that the decision was "very difficult".
