Massive almond creation takes the cake

A group of 2,008 young people from Guangdong province and Hong Kong special administrative region have made a 155.2 kg almond cake in Zhongshan, Guangdong.

The cake has a diameter of 106.8 cm and stands 23.8 m high.

The confection is thought to be the world's heaviest almond cake, a favorite snack in southern China.

They unveiled the cake last Monday to mark the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

Tibetan Mastiffs shot down after attacks

Police killed two Tibetan Mastiffs that had attacked five people in Zhuhai special economic zone, Guangdong province, last Monday.

The attacks took place in Gongbei at about 2:30 pm. Police were sent to the scene after the emergency hotline received reports of the rampaging dogs.

The victims were sent to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police are still looking for the owner of the two mastiffs.
