Milestones in environmental administration

1971 - the country's State Planning Commission sets up an environmental protection office.

1972 - China delegation attends UN's Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment as observer.

1973 - the State Council convenes inaugural national meeting on environmental protection, and establishes leading group of environmental protection and office, in charge of the country's work on environmental protection. In the same year, China becomes member state of the Governing Council of United Nations Environment Programme.
