Top honor for heroic surgeon

China Daily | Updated: 2008-03-28 07:19

Tibetan doctor Losang Cering was awarded a "Tibet Youth May 4 Medal", one of the highest honors for civilians, on Wednesday for his bravery during the Lhasa riots.

The surgeon with the Tibet People's Hospital was injured while trying to protect a father and son of Han nationality.

On March 14, Losang Cering went out with nurse Cejig to help people hurt in the riots. He saw Wu Guanglin holding his six-year-old son in front of a blazing house and crying for help. The boy had been trampled by rioters and was having difficulty breathing.
