Throughout the history of the region, Bangladeshi arts and crafts have been closely linked to its culture, with leather goods an important part of that heritage.
Following Bangladesh's independence in 1971, the leather industry was given export priority, with the emphasis on producing high-quality leather goods.
By combining the latest in technology with abundant raw materials and inexpensive skilled labor, leather and finished leather goods are now playing an important role in the country's overall economic performance.
