Prime ministers share big hopes for the future

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao:

It is a common wish and a general trend that China and Japan should maintain friendship from one generation to another.

When we met in Singapore for the first time, Japan's Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda and I reached a consensus that we should launch the China Japan Friendly Youth Exchange Year in this special year that marks the 30th anniversary of signing of the Japan-China Peace and Friendship Treaty. We both think that it is especially meaningful for the youth of both to better understand the history, judge the current situation and ponder on the future.

China and Japan are close neighbors, and both are important Asian countries. The young people of these two countries not only represent their peoples' hopes, but also shoulder important responsibilities to keep China-Japan friendship for generations.
