Lawyer gets jail time for faking evidence

A former woman lawyer from Beijing was sentenced to 18 months in jail on Monday for fabricating evidence in a rape case involving a young girl in a bid to help the rapist escape punishment.

The case was reported on Nov 17, 2006. Before a court heard the case, Xue Hui, a lawyer, told the victim, who was younger than 14, to lie about her age. She then helped the girl make a fake ID card to trick prosecutors into thinking she was older than 14.
