Shanghai Peking Opera Troupe presents the Peking opera, Cao Cao and Yang Xiu, a story which dates back 1,800 years. It describes two heroes' lives and analyzes their characters. The show has won many top prizes. Shang Changrong, chairman of the Chinese and Shanghai Dramatists' Association will play the leading role.

The Butterfly Lovers is one of the finest works of ancient Chinese folk literature and regarded as the Chinese version of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Originating in the Jin Dynasty (265-420), the legend tells of a tragic love story between Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai. Mao Weitao, a well-known Yueju Opera performer who is vice president of the Chinese Dramatists' Association and a first-class actress will star as Liang Shanbo. In Chinese, with English subtitles.

CONCERTS
Victor Wong Pin Kuan, one of the most famous Malaysian singers in Taiwan and once a member of the famous band No Stamps will bring his romantic brand of music to Shanghai. After his band was dismantled in 2000, Wong continued singing and made individual albums.
At a solo concert on March 14, White Valentine's Day - the day men give gifts to their girlfriends and wives in Japan - Wong promises to bring the mood for love.

The University of California at Los Angeles Chorale, one of the most renowned choruses in the United States will play at the Shanghai Concert Hall, under the baton of conductor Donald Neuen, who has been called "the greatest choral conductor of his generation" by musicologist Julius Herford. During its China tour, the chorale will perform works by contemporary composers, including Hymn of Light by Steve Rothstein.

Exhibitions
A series of photographs, artwork and sculptures will be on display at Shanghai Sculpture Space and the adjacent Redtown Art Center. The exhibition, Art-Space-Image, explores the interaction between art works and art spaces, artists and spectators, and human beings and art.
