Focus on struggling workers
The plight of rural migrant workers has become a prominent issue lately, not only at the annual NPC and CPPCC sessions, but also in literature and film.
Wang Baoqiang, a rising film actor who was once a struggling migrant worker in Beijing, starred in two programs at this year's CCTV Spring Festival Gala. He played a construction site laborer in one short comic drama called A Harmonious Melody on a Bus, and also performed Song of the Rural Migrant Worker. Wang's earthy performances touched many people, earning him two audience prizes.
Elsewhere, the film Lost and Found tells the story of a construction site cook, named Liu Yuejin, as he searches for a lost bag. Along the way he encounters thieves, corrupt officials and a real estate tycoon. Adapted from Liu Zhenyun's novel, My Name is Liu Yuejin, the film reflects the difficulties faced by a migrant in a big city.
