Making a case for alpacas

Dong Changsheng, NPC deputy and vice-chairman of the China Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Association, is known as the first man of alpacas of China. He introduced alpacas from Australia in 2002 and has successfully bred them in China.

He has called for the animals to be included on the country's list of resource species because of the great economic and ecological value they represent. They could help with the restructuring of the country's livestock industry, he said.
