Special supplement: Changchun puts people first on its list of priorities

As the city of Changchun continues to grow and prosper, environmentally responsible industries are courted and more infrastructure will be built - but it is the local people that come first, according to Mayor Cui Jie.

"We always give top priority to the livelihood and living standard of people," Cui said recently. "And a detailed program to do that has been formulated for this year."

According to Cui, the city of Changchun, capital of northeast China's Jilin province, is expected to see both gross domestic product and revenues rise by 15 percent in 2008.
