Seeds of a 'new countryside' are planted in Linyi

LINYI: Modern farming is taking root in Linyi, Shandong province, as a result of agricultural industrialization and the development of a new countryside.

Farmers' per capita net income reached 4,722 yuan in 2007, increasing by 15.64 percent, the top in the province.

"Developing modern agriculture is a crucial step to increase farmers' income and to change the current situation in China's rural areas," said Zhang Shaojun, a representative of the 11th National People's Congress and mayor of Linyi.
