China hails election as Medvedev wins 70%

China is happy to see that Russia held a smooth presidential election, Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said yesterday at a regular press conference.

President Hu Jintao on Monday congratulated Dmitry Medvedev by phone on his victory in Russia's presidential election.

Spokesman Qin Gang said the result of Russia's presidential election proved again that Russia's development path and domestic and foreign policies were popular among Russians.
