Poetry and heartbreak hits the stage

What's New

Southern Song Dynasty poet Lu You (1125-1210) and his cousin Tang Wan, who was also a well-known poet, wrote two poems lamenting their tragic fate. Inspired by their works, Beijing Dance Academy will stage the dance drama Tang Wan at the China Grand Theater in Beijing from March 8 to 10.

Though Lu had given Tang a phoenix ornament as an engagement gift, Lu's mother believed the girl would bring bad luck to her son. She tried to separate the lovers.
