US says Russian flights have cold war overtones

Four Russian "Bear" bombers flew a training mission over the Atlantic Ocean on Friday, part of a series of patrols described by the US as a Cold War tactic.

Earlier this month the Soviet-designed bombers flew over a US aircraft carrier in the Pacific triggering the US to scramble fighter jets.

The Pentagon said the Russian mission had Cold War overtones. The Kremlin has always insisted its missions stay within international laws.
