US limits Okinawa troops to bases

Wrecked parts of fishing boat Seitoku-Maru are retrieved after it collided with Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force's Atago, equipped with the high-tech Aegis radar systems, in Tateyama, south of Tokyo, yesterday. Japan's coastguard quizzed the captain and the crew of the 7,750-ton destroyer on suspicion of negligence yesterday after a collision that ploughed into the 7.3-ton tuna fishing boat, as media said the incident could prove a fresh blow to the government. Japanese officials said tight restrictions imposed yesterday on US troops in Japan are a good first step toward stopping military-related crimes, but more needs to be done to improve discipline.
