Official statement from Indian Ministry of External Affairs

At the invitation of His Excellency Mr. Wen Jiabao, Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh is paying an official visit to the People's Republic of China from 13 to 15 January 2008.

During his visit, the Prime Minister will hold officials talks with Premier Wen Jiabao and will have separate meetings with their Excellencies Mr. Hu Jintao, President of the People's Republic of China and Mr. Wu Bangguo, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China.

The last visit by an Indian Prime Minister to China was from 22 to 27 June 2003 by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

This visit is a part of the high level exchanges between India and China in recent years including those by Premier Wen Jiabao to India in April 2005 and President Hu Jintao to India in November 2006.
