For years, Yang Li had dreamed of moving into a new house. Today, the 60-year-old former middle school teacher is all smiles, not because her dream has come true, but because her old home is as good any new apartment. Yang has been living in four rooms around an old siheyuan (courtyard) in the heart of Beijing for nearly half a century. She has a small kitchen, too.
