STAGE
The Moscow Theater Ballet Troupe was established in the 1960s and has a deserved reputation for excellence. In the past 50 years it has produced such classics as Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Gisele, Don Quixote, Nutcracker and Romeo and Juliet.

Shanghai Grand Theater's version of the classic drama The Peach Blossom Land tells the story of a double-booking that leads to two theater groups rehearsing their plays on the same stage. One group is to perform a tragedy, while the other is rehearsing a farcical piece. The show stretches the limits of its actors' abilities by combining melodrama, verbal comedy and slapstick.

Lido de Paris is an artistic, technical and human tour de force, covering the history of Parisian cabaret. More than 25 dancers wearing more than 250 sumptuous costumes will perform. In accordance with the tradition of cabaret, each of the four tableaux in the show will end with jugglers, acrobats or illusionists.

CONCERTS
Performing for a dozen years or more has polished Ma Xiaohui's extraordinary musical skills. This month the young musician will, for the first time, perform traditional erhu works at the Shanghai Oriental Art Center. A wide range of traditional Chinese instruments, including erhu, flute, vertical bamboo flute, yangqin and koto will be played.

A carnival for clown and orchestra. Petter Vabog, from Norway, has developed the musical clown character, Melvin Tix and will play special instruments on stage to bring happiness to Shanghai audiences. Melvin Tix premiered in 1984.

Exhibitions
Works by He Saibang and Qing Yifeng, representatives of Chinese contemporary art, are displayed at Eastlink Gallery. Having studied Western modernism for many years, the two Shanghai natives add new elements to create a unique art style.

A video gadget called Little Assistant to Santa Claus, produced by an inventor Cheng Hangfeng will show visitors around a small village in Zhejiang Province, where most of the world's Christmas decorations are produced. The exhibition aims to help visitors reflect on the effects that an international Christmas has brought to China, culturally, economically or environmentally.
