Law firm appointments
Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, a leading international law firm, has appointed Michael Han as counsel and Alex Potter as partner of ACT practice group.
Han was admitted to practice in China in 1996. He joined the firm's Beijing office in 2002. Prior to that, he was the chief of the department of treaties and law of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, now the Ministry of Commerce.
Potter, a partner in the antitrust, competition and trade practice in London, moves to Beijing for a year in January. He specializes in EU and British competition law and has experience in consumer goods, retail and defense industries.

DDB, a worldwide advertising agency, has appointed Gordon Hughes as general manager of its Guangzhou branch after recently setting it up. Hughes will be responsible for expanding the company's business in South China region. He has more than 15 years' experience in the advertising industry.
