A meeting of minds
Fashion designers draw inspiration from arts of all kinds and believe that art improves the quality of people's lives. Last week the Chinese edition of Vogue magazine held a party with the theme of "Art Meets Fashion" at Beijing's Seasons Place Shopping Center, to celebrate its second anniversary.
Fashion designers Qiu Hao and Zhang Da, illustrator Xu Zhe, architect Chen Xudong and furniture designer Jin Yuhong showed off their works at the party, which had three spaces, including "Fashion in Vogue", "Beauty in Vogue" and "Living in Vogue".
Top of the class
Teachers Employment Network, which aims to introduce the best international teaching staff at China's educational institutes, started its employment promotion campaign this week.
The website is cooperating with hundreds of universities and volunteer organizations at home and abroad, including the Academic Position Network in the United States and teachers.on.net in Australia. Foreign teaching staff can find out what jobs are wanted in China and apply for them online. The website is also a provider of online advertising for Chinese educational institutes, from kindergartens to universities.
In addition to language teachers, finance, trade, mathematics and marketing teachers are also in demand. The website is a platform for both Chinese schools and international teachers, said Sun Yinghai, the website's CEO.
Snapshots of the world
An international photographic art exhibition opened on Saturday in Lishui, East China's Zhejiang Province, displaying hundreds of works from photographers both home and abroad.
Three hundred and sixty photographs were selected from 38,788 works from 103 countries and regions and exhibited at the 12th China International Photographic Art Exhibition, organizers said.
The works are focused on social life, folk customs, natural landscapes, portraits, advertisements, buildings and fashion.
During the exhibition, more than 6,000 photographs from international photographic associations and countries such as The Netherlands, Italy, Spain and Australia, will also be displayed.
A photographic cultural festival will be held during the event, which is sponsored by the China Photographers Association and the Lishui city government.
Ladies first at awards show
The women's channel of sina.com has presented its annual awards to the country's leading ladies.
Li Yifei, general manager of MTV China, Xie Jun, world chess champion, and TV presenter Yang Lan shared the title of "Elite Women" for their achievements in culture, sports and in the media.
The nominees for the category "Lovely Women" applied online themselves. The public voted and a jury comprising Zhang Xiaomei, editor-in-chief of China Fashion and Beauty, Huang Libiao, editor-in-chief of Women of China, pop singer Zhang Liangying, stylist Ji Mi and fashion designer Ma Yanli, decided the awards would go to Li Na from Beijing, Yang Liuqing from Shanghai and Zhang Meina from Fujian.
The "Touching Women" awards went to Wang Shurong, a farmer from Hebei Province, philanthropist Xu Aijuan, and Tian Guirong, who is an advocate for environmental protection in Henan Province.
Singer Zhang Liangying (pictured) also won a special award for "Most Influential Singer of the Year".
