Inter, Roma home games rescheduled for next month

MILAN: Inter Milan's home game with Lazio and AS Roma's match with Cagliari have been rescheduled for Wednesday December 5 after they were postponed on Sunday because of the fatal shooting of a Lazio fan by a policeman.

A statement on the Italian League's website (www.lega-calcio.it) on Tuesday said the two matches would kickoff at 1930 GMT.

No decision has yet been made on what to do with Atalanta's match with AC Milan, which was abandoned after seven minutes on Sunday when fans tried to smash down a pitchside barrier in protest at the shooting, which police say was accidental.

Changchun wins Chinese Super League title

Upstars Changchun Yatai claimed the Chinese Super League title yesterday, stunning the Chinese soccer world by cruising to victory in only their second season of existence in China's top professional league.

Crushing hosts Shenzhen 4-1 in their last game of the 2007 season yesterday, Changchun became the fifth team to lift the top-level trophy in China. The other four were Dalian Shide, Shanghai Shenhua, Shandong Luneng and Shenzhen, the four traditional powerhouses in China.

Changchun Yatai, coached by former ace striker Gao Hongbo, collected 55 points with 16 wins, seven ties and five losses for the crown, one point ahead of runners-up Beijing Guo'an.

NHL

Rangers, Maple Leafs and players fined for clash

TORONTO: The New York Rangers, the Toronto Maple Leafs and two players have been fined after a clash during the warm-up before their game on November 10.

The NHL fined the Rangers $25,000 and the Maple Leafs $10,000 while the Rangers' Sean Avery was fined $2,500, and the Maple Leafs Darcy Tucker $1,000 for their involvement in the incident.

"The unprofessional conduct of Avery in initiating this altercation, less than a week after being involved in an incident in the pre-game warm-up against New Jersey, is the basis for this discipline," said NHL Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations Colin Campbell.

"Tucker also bears some responsibility for his inappropriate response. Both organizations must also be held accountable for the players' actions."

Golf

PGA Tour to start drug testing program next year

MIAMI, Florida: The PGA could begin testing for steroids and other banned substances as early as July, the association announced following its policy board meeting on Monday night.

PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem said there would be a seven-month education program prior to the beginning of testing.

The plan was first agreed on by golf's global bodies in September and Monday's meeting gave it the PGA Tour's stamp of approval.

An extensive list of banned substances includes anabolic agents, hormones, stimulants, narcotics, beta blockers, and masking agents.
