Farmers in the county of Yanqing, on the outskirts of Beijing, have developed a new type of potato with the support of the local government and an agricultural research institution.

The new potato, dubbed "colorful potato", comes in red, yellow, purple, pink and white. But consumers will have to pay more for the special spud. While ordinary potatoes are sold for 1 yuan a kg in Beijing, their colorful cousins go for around 3 yuan per kg.

Family museum

Mai Tianxin, a 103-year-old from Shunde, Guangdong Province, set up a family museum in his house this week. The house was built 109 years ago and occupies 450sqm. Four generations of his family have lived in it. The family museum includes genealogy information, antique furniture and artworks.

Bride's maid

Personal assistants are helping brides prepare for their weddings in Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang Province.

Zhao Shanshan has been working as a personal assistant to brides for the past year. She said she helps brides prepare for their wedding and is on hand to assist them during the ceremony.

Her work includes hairstyling, helping the bride to select a gown and organizing the event.

Zhao brings a toolbox to every wedding carrying items like brooches, pins, fabric, sewing kits and stockings, in case of emergency.
