3 year old needs no ticket to ride

A 3-year-old boy who traveled on his own around Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, was safely returned to his parents on Sunday.

A bus driver, surnamed Fu, thought the boy was with his parents when he originally boarded the bus. When the child started crying Fu realized no one was looking after him and he called the police.

Fu had by this time earned the trust of the boy, who managed to tell him where he lived. Fu and the police then reunited the boy with his grateful parents.

Old man finds straw that breaks camel's back

An elderly man in Taiwan Province, surnamed Li, divorced his wife after enduring decades of domestic abuse, with the full support of his family.

The abuse started soon after the couple married in 1969. Li's wife shouted at him in public and often made him sleep outdoors. Two years ago she stabbed him in the back with a pair of scissors. She also beat other family members, including the couple's adult children. The court granted the divorce on the grounds of unreasonable behavior.

In case of emergency call Shaolin monks

A group of Shaolin monks pushed their bus down an expressway after it broke down on Monday in Nanchang, Southeastern China's Jiangxi Province. They were trying to avoid being overcharged by a breakdown crew.

Traffic police spotted the monks pushing their vehicle and on enquiring were told they were on their way home to Dengfeng, Henan Province, from Fujian Province.

They said they had heard breakdown crews overcharged if vehicles broke down on the expressway, so they were pushing their bus to the next exit. The group of over 40 monks had pushed the bus about 5 km before police stopped them.

Man with too much money seeks bride

A rich young man from Shanghai is spending 1.1 million yuan ($146,000) on hiring a team of "professionals" to find a spouse in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province.

The man, born in 1981, is said to be worth 50 million yuan. He comes from a village in Shandong Province and made his fortune investing in stocks. He wants a filial Nanjing woman, under 26. Currently more than 120 women fitting the description, including university students, have asked to be considered as candidates.

Technology challenged men obviously criminals

Sharp-eyed police stopped a man who was having trouble operating a mobile phone on Sunday and discovered he and his two companions were burglars.

Police at Nanchang Railway Station in Jiangxi Province, noticed the three young men acting suspiciously and when one of the men pretended to make a phone call they pounced.

They searched the men's belongings and found several mobile phones and MP4 players. The men were wanted in Fujian Province for burglary.

Dog is a wounded heron's best friend

A dog in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, befriended a heron after it was wounded. He guarded the bird for a night and made sure that it was taken care of the next morning.

A Nanjing resident, surnamed Su, heard her dog barking on Sunday morning and spotted the heron trapped in some steel pylons. She freed the bird and took care of its wounds.

Meanwhile, her dog sat nearby and barked furiously if anyone approached. Su said wild cats would have eaten the heron if it had not been for her dog. The bird had recovered enough by the afternoon to fly away.
