Tibetan media united
The Tenth Conference on Tibetan Media Cooperation was held last week in Beijing by the China Tibetan Language Commission and China's Tibet magazine. The event attracted more than 30 Tibetan language media, including newspapers, magazines, websites and publishing houses from Beijing, Tibet Autonomous Region, Qinghai, Sichuan, Yunnan and Gansu provinces.
Initiated in 1996 by Tibet Daily based in Lhasa, the conference aims at promoting the healthy growth of Tibetan language media, standardizing the translation of new words and expressions mushrooming amidst the fast changes of society and developing Tibetan language software to meet the needs of the increasing popularity of the Internet among Tibetan people.
Educating architects
The 2007 International Conference on Architecture Education held last week at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing attracted some 500 architects, professors from schools of architecture from China, Japan, the Untied States, Germany, Norway and the Netherlands.
Themed "characteristics and future direction of architectural education", the conference included seminars and panel discussions besides four exhibitions featuring photos, scale models and documents created by architecture majors from China's leading schools of the field from Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and Nanjing.
Eyes on folk cultures
China's top researchers in local folk cultures have united for a mammoth book project entitled Folk Cultures of China. As part of the nationwide endeavor to rescue folk cultural heritages, the project aims at producing the most comprehensive, in-depth documentation of Chinese folk cultures in book series. The first books on folk cultures in Beijing have been published by the Central Compilation & Translation Press.
Right time to get your kicks
Chinese wushu (kungfu) practitioners have launched a series of activities to raise international awareness of their martial art. The China Sports News, the Wushu Association of China, and the Overseas Edition of People's Daily and several other organizations recently announced the campaign "Phoenix Singing", a publicity push for Chinese kungfu.
In the next 12 months, the organizing committee will be working on Shaolin Kungfu, the first episode of Charm of Authentic Chinese Kungfu, a documentary series directed by Li Hanjun, and a Phoenix Singing multimedia platform to broadcast Chinese wushu events.
Sanctuary for smart arts
The 2007 Creative Art Festival at the 798 Art Zone will be held at the Factory 718 from September 28-November 3.
Co-organized by the Managing Board of the 798 Art Zone and Beijing Institute of Creative Industries, the festival features a wide range of events such as art exhibitions, live performances, fashion shows, and forums on industrial design, architecture, and trends in developing factory-turned spaces for contemporary art.
