Sony Ericsson CEO Flint to quit
Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications Ltd, the mobile-phone joint venture of Sony Corp and Ericsson AB, said Chief Executive Officer Miles Flint will step down on November 1 and be succeeded by Hideki Komiyama.
Flint will remain executive adviser to the new CEO until the end of the year, the London-based company said yesterday.
Flint will "develop new personal and business opportunities", he said.
Since taking over as head of the mobile-phone venture, Flint turned the company from an unprofitable operation into one of the largest contributors to the two companies' earnings by pushing higher-priced phones with high-resolution cameras and music players.
Flint's departure comes after Sony Ericsson in July reported the slowest profit growth in almost two years.
"He transfers the leadership of a business that is poised for significant further growth in the years to come," Ericsson Chief Executive Officer Carl-Henric Svanberg said in the release.
Ericsson is the world's largest maker of wireless networks, while Sony is the biggest maker of video-game players in the world.
