Carragher suffers broken rib
Liverpool, England: Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher faces a spell on the sidelines after scans confirmed he broke a rib in his side's win at Sunderland.
Carragher also developed a collapsed lung as a result of the collision with Jose Reina during Saturday's 2-0 win and is likely to miss Tuesday's Champions League qualifier against Toulouse.
Liverpool spokesman Ian Cotton said: "Jamie underwent a series of investigations on Sunday morning which confirmed he has a broken rib and has also developed a pneumothorax.
"He will continue to be monitored on Sunday but at this stage no further treatment will be required."
Carrgaher's defensive partner Sami Hyypia, who broke his nose at the Stadium of Light, trained on Sunday and is expected to be fit to face Toulouse.
Liverpool sell Paletta
Liverpool, England: Liverpool sold Argentinian defender Gabriel Paletta to Boca Juniors on Sunday.
Paletta, 21, struggled to break into Rafa Benitez's side after his two million pounds move from Banfield in 2006 and made just eight appearances for the Premier League club.
He has opted to join Argentina's Boca for an undisclosed fee rather than languish in the reserves at Anfield.
Seville's Puerta in serious condition after heart attack
MADRID: Seville's defender Antonio Puerta remained in "very serious" condition in hospital on Sunday after suffering a heart attack during his side's 4-1 win against Getafe.
Puerta, 22, fainted after half an hour of Saturday's match, with his side losing 1-0.
Teammate Ivica Dragutinovic rushed to his aid and prevented the player from swallowing his tongue as medical staff raced onto the pitch.
"Puerta is in a very serious state but a little more stable," the club said, quoting a medical update on Sunday afternoon.
"He is still hospitalised in intensive care where he is connected to a life support machine and he's suffering from hemodynamic instability," it added.
Papin named as Roux's successor at Lens
PARIS: Former French international Jean-Pierre Papin will replace Guy Roux as coach at struggling first division side Lens.
The 68-year-old Roux stunned French football when announcing he was quitting after just four games late Saturday and on Sunday unveiled Papin as his successor.
"Jean-Pierre Papin has already been hired," the veteran manager who spent 40 years with Auxerre before being lured out of retirement by Lens told RMC radio.
Papin's first game in charge will be Thursday's UEFA Cup second round second leg tie against Swiss side Young Boys.
"I'll hang on to run him through the team, and also talk to him about Young Boys since I've been studying them," Roux said.
